Curved Railings

Hi all,
My old man has asked me to make some railings for a new garden wall he has just built.
The problem I have is that it's curved and I have no idea how I can get the angle for the curve.
Anyone have any ideas? Your help will be much appreciated.

String a line from wall end to end and then measure the distance from the string to the wall at say 300mm intervals making sure you measure at 90 deg to the string.
Replicate your measurements on a concrete floor and bend your steel to match.
The above works if the curve is irregular, if it's a fixed radius use a meter long straight rod and measure the 'bow' at right angles to the centre of the rod.

Take your wall to the workshop and bend the steel to fit.
Hmm maybe not the most practical solution

If its a nice even curve, just measure two points, say 3metres apart, then straightedge/stringline between those points, then measure from the line between the two points to the curve of the wall.....when drawing it out just remember thats the inside of the wall, and to get the centre line you need to mark all the way along the curve, not just half the wall at the middle point.

If you arn't confident, you can always jigsaw up a bit of ply to double check.

Knock the railing up, draw the curve out on the floor, then roll to suit....

If you have the facility to roll the panels after, its a lot easier than trying to put a curved railing together.

Thanks for that. I did think about the string idea but thought there might be a quicker way, however string works for me.
As for moving the wall, what's wrong with just building a nice and simple straight one. Would make my life a lot easier.

Weve done railings in the past for builders, they supply a rough set of measurements, leave the posts long... builder concretes them in and builds the wall etc to suit. Nice and easy

If the radius isn't too tight you can make the railing straight and bend them afterwards. Just needs some anchor bolts in the floor and some box or angle to clamp the railing down at suitable spacing
