Sort of, but they just make it easier to see whats going on, so I suppose they do, they are more fragile than standard though, they are good for blokes like Langy because he cannot always weld at the bench-he has to take the torch to the job, they would be a definite advantage for his work.

Sounds good! I can imagine the pyrex cups being more expensive than the "girly" pink ones then?

Oh yeah, cos you can't get em over here AFAIK, so have to send to UK to RAPIDWELDING, think they are the only CK distributor. You can get designer pyrex cups from this bloke

Yeah i s'pose you're right on that...for now i'll keep at it with the standard kit then...Tuesday i have the robot technician coming in to do some repairing on the TIG robot...apparantly bossman wanted me to be there when the robo tech comes in... dunno why but i'm pleasantly surprised!!!

I've only ever used a standard No.6 or 8 and never had any problems, other than it being too long (Stubby gas lenses would be better).
A fancy Pyrex would be nice but sadly out of my budget.

I have often wondered, how easy are the Pyrex ones to break? I've dropped my torch a few times and the ceramic hasn't broken, I don't know if a glass one would have.

pretty easy, I think they might be more fragile when hot(not sure) but anyway, they don't take much abuse, mind you, I've broken ordinary cups

I'm doing lil bursts of practice today, I've had a couple of goes with the pyrex (short) CK gas saver set up. Does seem better, but I'm not exactly sure why.
But, a big difference is in the weight of the set up, the pyrex cup set up is way lighter than standard.

Pretty much every distributor and their dog have access to CK products now..
I use CK's Gas Saver kits but I really do want to get my hands of a furick kit from Tom at West Country

I bring my own in from the states where they are much cheaper, I used to get them for other forum users but I got fed up with getting messed about by certain members !!!

This is my typical set up.
I'm not interested in swapping around a huge selection of cups and lenses for various jobs etc I like to keep stuff simple and practical and this covers just about 90% of what I do.
I don't even swap lenses about when changing my tungsten sizes I just change the collet and use 2.4 lens for everything.
I do however buy good consumables.
Ck and weldcraft been my favourite for front end parts. The ck non split collets are second to non IMO.

I've got a couple of the furick #8 cups Tom. They are a very good thing if you physically cannot see due to the cup. Helped me out no end with one particular job of welding some plates inside box section. I did the whole job looking through the cup. I think the furick cups are for me way ahead of the ck type simply because of the simplicity that you don't need to change the whole Expensive set up to use a clear cup they just snugly fit over your wp9/20 lens or your wp17 stubby.
They are shorter with a thinner side wall too making them less cumbersome than the CK. I don't use them much at all to be fair but they are bloody handy in those one off situations.
This is it on my old weldtec just after that box section job.
I used the tiny back cap also so I could get right inside.

Very easy they don't do well in clumsy hands.
They also don't do well if you forget to turn the gas on too
