Think we are at crossed purposes.

It was the question in post 37 I was trying to have a stab at. Put my thought process down which was wrong according to Cscs. It’s an odd as hell question mind. I can’t think of any real life situation where you would need to know that.

Unless it was a chip pan fire out of control. Still an odd way of thinking about it. Maybe they are touching on boundary cooling without calling it that??

I forgot b was actual oil and f was cooking oil.

Any idea how a class f fire fuels a class a one @The_Yellow_Ardvark? Odd question.

Class F is cooking oils and fat fires.
Class F units are known as a "Wet Chen" unit. Most kitchens have them now as standard.
Depending on what is cooked there you may find a mix of
Class F.
Class B
and Electrical cover, in the form of a CO2 unit.

Plus a fire blanket.

Now the rules of fire blankets is changing.
Not to put out a chip pan fire or similar. That's what the Wet Chem." is for.
But for putting out burning humans.
Oddly there is no mentions on what to do with burning animals.

A point to be made.
CSCS fire extinguishers and their use is being re-written as it is now a few years out of date.

Class D.
Flammable metals.

To be operated by trained personal. The application of the powder is very different from the normal Dry Powder units.
It needs to be "wafted" onto the fire.

Normally found on the machines set aside for that kind of work.

Localish firm makes magnesium press plates, he told me about their last place going up.

He said it was really tragic but the fire was pretty impressive.

Old mobile phones make excellent long range centrefire rifle targets for this reason. So I've been told.

Just for completion, I did my test yesterday, and there were no questions on fires or fire extinguishers in it, from what I remember. And I passed. Many thanks for all the suggestions.

I wouldn't sweat too much about the sample question I posted, it was from an unofficial cscs test site, complete with spelling and grammatical errors and other vague questions like this one.

I wouldn't sweat too much about the sample question I posted, it was from an unofficial cscs test site, complete with spelling and grammatical errors and other vague questions like this one.

Looking at that question I’d think it was a mistake? I’ve done a fair few safety passport and other similar courses, and used to be a ships firefighting instructor (albeit a long time ago now !!) and it makes no sense to me, unless I’m missing something.

They are a headache on ro-ros when they are contained within an EV. Current guidance is put them under a CCTV camera next to the loading ramp with a forklift nearby

There is an ongoing debate with BAFE, FIA and I think the H&S. @Parm you may confirm that last bit.
About making phone shops etc and the warehouse having Class D fire extinguishers on site.

Those units are not cheep.

Not something we would get involved in. Anything retail will be the local authority with support from fire service

I've seen something recently about fire services lifting them into a skip full of water and leaving them there for a few days. The ferries are obviously using the sea as the skip

Pretty much. I saw a video on a refresher about a year ago. One was set alight on a simulated car deck and there was no way to extinguish it with standard ship board systems. In the trial it burnt through the ‘deck’ it was sat on. They are bad news on vessels. CalMac tried to stop taking them I was told but as they’re subsidised by the government they got told to get on with it. That’s the story doing the rounds anyway. Mates brother is ETO on CalMac ferrry so reasonably accurate I would think.
