Crush tubes

I found out what they were for when I put the cambelt cover back on the Subaru, whoever had it apart last had lost all the ones that go along the bottom edge, the bolts would only do up finger tight without crushing the plastic.

Fortunately I had the top ones to copy, some tubing roughly the right diameter, and a lathe.
How does anybody manage without a lathe?

Improvisation, I keep an amount of tubing scrounged for the purpose.

I used to use a drill and a grinder for stuff like that before I had the Chinese lathe, and arguably the Chinese lathe took longer than the drill and grinder for simple parts...now I've got the smart and brown anything even remotely cylindrical becomes a lathe job

That was first thing I thought of, crush tube or crush sleeve. One use only.

None crush sleeve sounds better for the OP or compression limiter as mentioned above.

I would call that one use thing a collapsible spacer. Designed to give the required preload.

Indeed so. Or a welder, a hydraulic press, and a pillar drill..........
