As far as I know it is best to use their (Loctite) cleaner to ensure the parts are chemically clean.
Also I have heard it rumoured that the use of cross dowels, along with Loctite, is not such a good idea as it interferes with the the 360 degree axial contact that the 638 can produce.
Again, might well be worth checking with their Technical Dept.
