As far as I know it is best to use their (Loctite) cleaner to ensure the parts are chemically clean.

Also I have heard it rumoured that the use of cross dowels, along with Loctite, is not such a good idea as it interferes with the the 360 degree axial contact that the 638 can produce.

Again, might well be worth checking with their Technical Dept.

How about a taper pin just to give some mechanical locking?
Nice and easy to fit when the glue is dry.

I guess the worst that could happen is that the crank comes undone while running and the piston will stick at TDC or BDC. I doubt it will be the journal-crank joint that fails unless the big end seizes up. It will be the crank-shaft joints that fail due to torque.

In real life it would be a different story as if the crank failed while going up or down a hill, you would lose all braking as this is done with the engine, traction engine wheel brakes are only used for holding the engine stationary.

I like the sound of this. Its only for me anyway so if it fails i'll just make another, only means a bit of embarrassment on the rally field

well I note they say "should" and I also note that 2 thou gap is a minimum which I suggest is too loose a fit for a crankshaft pin.

It's up to you and depends on how much running you expect the engine to do?

I presume this stuff sets pretty hard hence the gap variation allowed.

In reality, its a model. It will probably only be doing about 5 days running at shows a year. Not counting lazy afternoons sitting watching it tick-over in the garden!

I may do some tests with a bar glued in a hole with a large t-bar handle on it and see if i can get it to fail.
