Crankshaft rebuild, restore

Tank and side panels given a couple of coats of epoxy primer. I had some leftover aerosol white paint. I used this on the side panels to give the colour base-coat an easier time.

A bit more flatting off needed on the tank as the primer went on a bit orange peely.

If it’s warm enough tomorrow ( I paint outside under my carport ) I’ll do the basecoat and lacquer. I’ve chosen Ferrari red pearl metalic.

A small step back to the guages restoration. The original idiot warning lights were beyond saving so i decided to replace with LED lights. The replacement indicator warning light needed diodes installing as I retained the conventional indicator lamps.
These new led warning lights are far brighter than the originals and will be much easier to see on bright sunny days.

Yes. You’re right. Although the indicators are pattern copies bought here. The only difference being they don’t have the longer stem of the originals. New original spares are getting rarer and ridiculously expensive at a time when the market for these old bikes is getting weaker. Very much a labour of love with small hope of ever recovering the cost.

Bit of a disaster yesterday. I’d just put my last base colour coat on the tank when a moment of inattention and clumsiness caused me to splatter neat paint over my handiwork. To say i was annoyed with myself is an understatement. My pig was totally dead.

But life goes on so today i flatted off the damaged area ready for remedial action. I need to wait for some decent warm weather. Those days are getting fewer. “Winter drawers on”as Terry Wogan used to say.
