Chassis numbers are in various places, including under the bonnet, as you well know.

Not just any 20 year old vehicle, but a 20 year old vehicle with a blatently obvious defect.

With respect, I'm probably not qualified to do your job. Why do you think you know enough to do mine?

Nowhere has anyone mentioned 'checking fluids' on this thread till your post. You appear to be angry over something you've just made up.

Stop checks of vehicles is bread and butter for police. If you are going to do it, do it properly. Of course, uniform police aren't investigating all the unsolved murders, rapes and robberies, particularly in the early hours. However, they do arrest murderers, rapists and robbers by carrying out thourough traffic stops.

i did but only mentioned it as theres a reference in the highway code of checking your fluids and its also included on the learner coarse as well

as only a torch would show the fluid levels for these parts under the bonnet its still not ticket worth just plain pathetic if you get an advisory over those

I own 7 vehicles . . . on one, imported from the US, it's in the corner of the screen. Every other one . . . under the bonnet.

Sorry but most of you are talking rubbish. As an ex traffic police officer, a 20 year old car with a crack all the way across the windscreen is asking to be stopped. 'It only just happened' may or may not be true, but I've heard that story nearly as many times as I've stopped vehicles for defects, it's very difficult to believe and always taken with a large pinch of salt.

When you say she was 'nicked' do you mean arrested, reported, ticketed, given a vehicle defect rectification form or simply advice or verbal warning?

The car is registered to you presumably. It's night time. How is the officer to know it's a lone female?

I guarantee the officer wasn't inspecting the engine, possibly checking for insecure battery as is quite common, possibly just checking chassis number.

PCC won't be interested. The press won't be interested. The Chief constable won't be interested. Your MP won't be interested.

Here's another version of events from someone else that wasn't there. Me. She was justifiably stopped for driving a car with a crack right across the screen, advised to get it fixed, possibly given a ticket, more likely a vehicle defect form and escorted home. Not really grounds for a complaint.

Not sure where to start with this, but let’s go with the fact that he’s a copper, not a trained automotive engineer or even a mechanic, so he doesn’t actually know what he’s talking about. Secondly, a laminated windscreen doesn’t explode. Thirdly, he could have exercised some common sense once he’d found she was a lone female - he must surely know that the police don’t exactly have a good reputation at the moment, so he clearly lacks some basic social skills. And fourthly, he had no business under the bonnet, since there was no evidence to suggest anything was wrong under there and clearly doesn’t have the brains to spot any defects anyway, given that he thinks laminated screens explode spontaneously.
