crack in cast iron plate - Advice please

Hi All,

I have bought an old K6 red telephone box for renovation. I love their iconic design and want to protect one for future generations to enjoy. I have a prob that I need some advice on please.
The back plate has a crack approx 18 long from the bottom edge straight up the middle.
What would be the best way to repair / get this repaired? My bro was/is a welder and has a mig set up I can use.

All / any advice gladly accepted.

You generally don't want MIG. You could use brazing wire but that will be expensive.

It can be gas brazed. I find it best for old things that are likely to crack.

It can be done with SS filler.

if u braze it with oxy acetylene i hope u have a nice big propane roofers torch to pre heat and fire bricks round the job to keep the heat contained

First job is to drill the end(s) of the crack to stop the split spreading.

You might be able to use metal stitching, which is a cold process, but I'm not sure if the thickness of the metal would allow this.

As Rtbcomp sugested cold stiching
you drill holes across the crack and knock in the stitch lock about an inch and a half apart ,I've seen machine beds repaired by this method in factories.
