CPC for HGV'rs

Cheers Guys, Right after reading most of the various sites on this, as Andy says, it seems that under test /repair or dragging your own equipment round for your own purpose /work, as long as it is not your primary work, you dont need the cpc to keep your hgv license,
But as usual they have made loads of grey areas, coz sometimes you have to test a hgv loaded so where do you go there??
Again a costly job for the boys, you can do the same 7hr module 5times and sleep through it, to get the qualification !!!. WHAT A LOAD OF BS.

You don't need a CPC to keep your HGV licence, The CPC is needed to operate a truck on the road, You can get a restricted orange CPC for carriage of your own goods unless its changed in the last few years, The Blue & Green licences are for National & International.
The CPC is not really a waste of time as it keeps dangerously serviced trucks off the road.

thnk the guy in post above was talking about the new driver cpc which if u dont do 35hrs before 9th of sept 2014 and get stopped vosa or police wont like it and i think they can take away you liecence to drive any van for work above 3.5t it abit **** but u have to do it

A slight tangent to the original question but...

Roughly how much would it cost to gain a HGV license, for 44T articulated vehicles.
I'm young enough to have one of the post 97 licenses, which is worthless for anything beyond 3.5T. I would like to have the option in the future to hire a 7.5T should the need arise, and also get my trailer capacity up above 750kg.

All I have at the moment is car and bike license, and would like to get HGV under my belt in the next few years.
What would be a rough figure for training right through to practical test?

Should add, I'm confident and experienced reversing farm trailers etc. (can even drive them forwards too!) so I wouldn't have to start from scratch so far as manouvers are concerned.

i would say £1700 - £2500 to get a c+e license .
Depends on what the trainer charges and if you pass both tests first time or not !

I have taken all five modules of the Drivers CPC fortunatly paid for by my employer. For me it was worth while as I am more an occasional driver taking vehicles for VOSA test etc. and hence lack the real world experience of full time drivers. The course leader, an ex fireman and longhaul driver had many tales to tell relavant to the subject and encouraged all in the group to interact. Of most interest was the module on loading as my loads are just ballast rather than multiple shapes, types and sizes. I must admit that I learnt more from the other attendees than the course material.

Surely you didnt need the cpc for taking vehicles for test, unless you are driving commercially on a part time 'as needed' basis ?
I agree that in principle it should be a good thing if it ensured things like roadside first aid tacho's etc were covered, but the way it has been implemented is garbage.

My course did cover First aid a bit more in depth than the usual one for work place, manual handling, Tachos, drivers hours inc domestic and European, as well as the loading and securing of the loads.
I needed it as I very occasionally also need to collect and deliver vehicles and trailers. Besides I am one of the fortunate ones for whom the company paid.
