CPC for HGV'rs

Anybody got any info or ideas about this cpc crap, anybody with a hgv license is being subjected to at the moment ?

Gave mine up 10 years ago when i got out of Trucks, Its all on the net for you if you google it, you can do it on a home course or concentrated course if you wish.

no pass or fail just a card to say you have attended. 7hrs a year for 5yrs.

Don't think you need CPC unless you directly make a living from HGV, ie. Haulier.
As a mechanic looking to pick up HGV's to carry out work on them, I thought it didn't apply.

Have been told its a complete farse at any rate

I think you need a cpc if you tow a race or show car to an event where there is a reward (prize money for example)
Santapod raceway were doing courses for teams last year.

It is. Been doing a day a year(this year will be the third). The first 2 covered the same stuff. Feels like a 'lets bring this in, make it 35 hours, but we dont know what to fill it with'.

The guy taking it last year said there was no set criteria to follow as to content(not enough to make up 35 hours anyway)...only that after 5 years it had to add up to 35 hours. Foowkin madness, is the road haulage business not getting shafted enough with fuel costs, foreign trucks driving for free in the UK when UK trucks get charged to drive on the continent etc etc. Clowns in charge.

i wont be doing it, im giving up hgv, but my arguement is why should we have to do it? we arnt even in the EU!

Gave mine up when i hit 45,theres no money in HGV work anymore,like the days when i had a tipper and skip lorry.
Was chatting to a 7.5T delivery driver the other day,100 drops+ per day doing 12hrs a day almost,for just over £7 an hour.

Ive only had my lgv license for 2 years now . we did one 7 hour module 18 months ago . Well i say 7 hours , it was more like 3 1/2 hours with numerous fag breaks . complete waste of time being stuck in a drafty garage with a bunch of deadheads (well most of my fellow drivers are ).

Done properly with a decent 'instructor' it would certainly worthwhile , in fact im paying £65 myself for the next module . im pretty sure my employer is waiting until the last minuite to complete the next 4 modules

I have no problem doing extra training its a shame its attendence only and no proper exam !

That would wake up the dinosaw old skool drivers who think they already know everything

Must of been a recent change then as my mate did one about 2 years ago, he did the studying at home and then went for a day for the test, I did mine 25 years ago.

Yeah, I still hold a class 1 HGV, dunno what its called these days, havn't driven an artic since 2000, I'm gonna give it up though as I don't need it anymore, I passed mine when i was 21 on the local council, they put you through a class 1 even though they didn't have any on the fleet, hows that for wasting money !!!

worked in teaching for two years and its just the same! used to get assessed twice a year check lesson plans weak learners catered for etc then get a lower grade due to not being interactive etc then twice a year staff conference.

where you would be sat down and talked at for 8 hours on the most boring stuff possible. its the best days sleep i have all year!

Mrs Robo has to do them for bus driving (PCV) if the 5 modules are not completed by Sept this year the PCV (and, I assume HGV) entitlement on driving licence is no longer valid.

edit: each module about £50 and is recorded on DVLA database

it does not matter how much of a professional driver we are, its all the other idiots out there that dont allow for hgv trucks, the extra room they need for corners and the extra room they need for braking, the list of gripes goes on

there is no real enjoyment nowadays in driving, everything has to be there yesterday, route planners make no allowance for hold ups and idiots on site at your destination love nothing more than delaying you further

would I change my job ?

and give up on all those early am summer mornings when the sun is coming up and theres hardly another vehicle on the road

not on ya life, bring on those diesel fumes (sorry sorry i meant adblue officer)

Cheers Guys, Right after reading most of the various sites on this, as Andy says, it seems that under test /repair or dragging your own equipment round for your own purpose /work, as long as it is not your primary work, you dont need the cpc to keep your hgv license,
But as usual they have made loads of grey areas, coz sometimes you have to test a hgv loaded so where do you go there??
Again a costly job for the boys, you can do the same 7hr module 5times and sleep through it, to get the qualification !!!. WHAT A LOAD OF BS.
