Advice please?
I've a small shed cum workspace in the back garden of my semi-detached house. It's a bit under 4m x 4m, and I keep needing to move stuff and/or work in the hardstanding in front of the doors (between it and the house).
I've only a narrow passage ( 1 metre) down the side of the house from the drive to get stuff in and out - hence I don't call it a garage.
I live in Wales. It rains a lot, so chucking stuff outside or working outside the shed on stuff is a pain and often not on.
I'm thinking of a "Car Port" sort of thing to cover the hardstanding and give me a well-used but covered extra space to keep me and my kit out of the rain.
The yard area is well enclosed, with an approx. 2 metre high wall between me and next door (and on their side it's where their oil tank is, not their garden), a full height solid gate, and the single-storey now utility room ahead - so its a sheltered area.
I could fly the roof of the frame over the flat roof of the workshop, so rain run-off would simply go into its guttering, so it's feasible.
Height would need to be around 2.5m to fly over what's there I think (I need to measure).
So much for the background.
Any ideas for 1. What to build it out of (would a steel frame be the way to go?), and anything else helpful... but also - am I like it to be open to issues like planning or similar?
(Immediate neighbour to this idea is nice and unlikely to mind or moan - but at the same time I don't need grief, nor do I want to tread on toes).
If I do it, it like it to be tidy and neat, but at the same time not crazy expensive roofing material etc.
Any assistance gratefully received
