I had a bloke knocking on the door yesterday begging for help as he had got stuck in mud down the lane, he'd followed the satnav and turned left down a very muddy footpath in his VW Transporter
He was panicking and covered in mud as he was now late for his deliveries.
He'd tried the neighbours house but he didn't want to get his shiny Jeep Wrangle all dirty so he obviously spotted the Surf and tried my house, I said I'd help...
When I got there he was stuffed half into the bushes 20 yards down the path! Stupid thing was that he had turned off the tarmac to get there but instead of stopping then kept on going!
He tied his strap onto the Surf but it snapped straight away so I got my chain out, that got us moving but I nearly reversed into a sign post and stopped, he didn't!
His plastic bumper didn't really stand a chance against the metal one on the Surf
I shifted myself across a bit and got him out, his van was coated in mud where the Surf had spun the wheels up a bit and had bent a mirror back, he probably had some scratches from the bushes too.
So a good deed for the day done but it wasn't exactly a professional extraction! A link in my chain had snapped (it's only a really small one so not really up to the job anyway)
I know a few of you guy's have done a bit of rescue work and off roading so what's a good bit of kit for towing numpties out of the mud?
Chain, straps, D shackles?
