couple of welding questions

hi all, just got around to having more of a play with my new clarke 100e what a lovely machine it is!

right i am running 0.8mm wire and a disposable Co2 can from machinemart and iv been told the co2 ones last longer than the argo mix is this true

my next one

on max power MAX 1 3 to get the best weld i have to have the wire feed at 3 or 4

my welds are getting better and i made some more bits up for my gokart today will get pics up tomorro

The CO2 will last longer because they contain a liquid which boils off as you use it, whereas the mixes are compressed gas.

aah right okay thanks i still hear no liquid sloshing around so i presume theres still a bit in it i would say that iv welded about 8 or 10 mins in total

i don't think that disposables of any kind have ever worked out to be economical haha.
try to get a rent free argon co2 mix cylinder well worth looking for and getting, that's what i use and it's great, you'd need to be doing a real lot of welding for boc to be cheaper and almost no welding for disposables to be cheaper, i used to run disposables when i first got a mig when i was a kid i got through about 10-15 of them realised that it had cost about £50-100 and got a boc cylinder, no rent free around here at that time and i already had oxy acetylene on boc so it was easy to get the mig bottle too.
plus the other day i got my little mig (sip 130) out after not using it for years and it had a disposable bottle of co2 on it and some wire so i thought i'd see if it still worked, it did! so then i thought i'd compare the weld quality of 5% mix and the co2, the performance difference is huge, i reckon it is the biggest up grade you can make, and it saves you money!
