Could someone possibly explain the buying of a re-fillable gas bottle please

Good evening all I have been trying to do some research about buying a 10 litre welding gas bottle but I can't get my head round things, some places I have found talk about a rental fee for the bottle then only x amount of £ for refills??

For example if I purchased a 10litre bottle for £120 and it costs £15 to refill, would I then get x amount back should I decide I don't want the bottle anymore??

Is it a similar setup to the calor gas bottles where you return one each time and get a full bottle??

As for the gas I have a sip t130p mig welder and do either mild steel or stainless welding so is there a gas I can use for both??

Basically in most cases you pay a refundable deposit on the bottle.

Adams Gas for example £55

Then you pay for the gas say £35

So your first bottle is £90 and any refill is £35.

If you give the bottle back then they refund the £55.

Just figure in carriage costs if doing mail order, these killed it for me, now I'm a BOC customer...

Some auto factors will do gas, so you potentially avoid extra costs by picking up.

hobby weld is another one to try, but the volkzone offer would be good on the argo sheild light if its just mig u do!

Yes, BOC dealers are all over the place. Bit, check your usage fits a rental set up, if you only do the odd jobs here and there a rent free could be the way to go.

I estimated how much gas I'd use over a year and then just worked out the cost of each option.

I have a boc place not far from me so will give them a call to see what they can do for me, what type of gas will I want for stainless and mild steel mig welding??

From a rough tally I reckon I used between 8-10 disposable bottle a year and at £16.99 each its a fair bit of money

id have a look on hobywelds website, £50 deposit then u have a bottle and just the price of ur gas on top

I think I'm going to go with the hobby weld thanks very much for sharing the info

As for the gas I reckon the hobby weld 5 is ideal for me as my welder will do 5-6mm thick and there is a stockist at a car parts shop i regularly use, I'm surprised I've never seen anything there to do with the hobby weld.

You should remember that Hoby Weld cylinders are only filled to 137 bar therefore you only get 1370 litres of gas .
Our 10 & 20 litre cylinders are filled to 200 bar therefore you get either 2000 or 4000 litres of gas .

Sorry for the thread Hi-jack, but thought as we were talking gas it would be better here than to start a new thread. How long does say a 10 litre cylinder (2000 litres of gas) last?? Suppose thats a how longs a piece of string question but just looking for some rough figures. Like, how many 5kg spools of 0.6mm wire would you get to one cylinder. I am using fluxcore at the moment and the price of wire is crazy compared to mig wire, so thinking it might actually be cheaper to run with gas???

should be about 4hrs continuous

2000 divided by 8 litres per minute, then divided by 60 to give hours

Thanks mate. Seems like it would be a lot cheaper to use gas than gasless. Will look into it further.

Your not hi jacking its helpfull the have the info in one place iv never used any gas less wire iv always just assumed that using has was better
