Second hand welder generators pop up for sale for sensible money from time to time, I'm sniffing around an old Miller Roughneck at the moment.

Yeah, its the route I should likely take if it wasn't for work. I figure placing a std charge on any off grid work to cover its cost / life in addition to other labour costs etc.

Not sure which 6kVa Pramac you are looking at but mine (P6000s) cost me over £3k new but with the right servicing scheduled was good for 4.5k hours before needing a rebuild. It does weigh in at 200kg.

I now have 3 of them, one from new & two bought with low hours on them, one of which was in bits with parts missing so had a full rebuild.

pramac px8000 6kva £512 +Vat. its 94 kg and carries a 1500 hours warranty to trade so not the same as yours obviously (its the cheapest option but not one I think I will be going for) Being frank I am amazed at the margin dealers seem to have or not have and the control the manufacturers are exerting on prices in this area. I am getting very different prices on exactly the same kit from a few manufacturers. There is one company oft talked of on here that has crazy expensive prices and frankly if they are making that much I am never buying any of their "own" products. I looks at this stage like there is more profit on a bigish Honda Genny than a new Honda car looking at prices received.
200 kg is out the question for me but 3k for 4500 hours sounds exceptable

Yeah sealed ducting for the exhaust is a must,my old boss ran a big diesel genny to power a 3 phase welder and compressor in his van, and with the exception of the noise you could happily work in the back with it running,vibration wasn't too bad either tbh, he had a hole in the roof from an old spinning vent so piped it to that, double jubilee clips either end, and a stack flap on top to stop the water getting in.

Got one of the smaller Hyundai generators couple of years ago, AVR failed after about 3 months but I phoned Hyundai service and they put one in the post overnight, been fine since.
