Unless it is routed through the house in a way that deems 30ma protection or is agricultural and needs extra protection then I wouldn't run a sub main from an RCD if at all possible, as you are looking at 5s disconnection time to give you some discrimination between that and the devices at the end of it! This would then have the 30ma protection for your final circuits (if needed)
To answer above, you can use a space way in the existing consumer unit or put it's own switch fuse or similar in. It all depends on what is available and what space is available, customers budget, there are a fair few considerations to be made!
