A while back i fitted a socket in the garage on a spur of the ring.
I just decided to move it, but it's doing something I didn't expect.
This is half of the house fuse box
This is the garage fuse box
I ran the cables in the garage and had a qualified electrician friend link it all up.
I turned the socket breaker off in the garage and disconnected the socket to be moved, but if the earth touches the live or neutral (maybe only one, I can test that if needed) it trips the main rcd in the garage.
I tried it again when it tripped the right hand rcd in the house.
I have no voltage at all showing on the socket cables so why, when I short the earth to live or neutral, does it still trip everything?
Just wondered if this is normal or if it means there is a fault somewhere.
If it's normal, I'll carry on, move the socket and turn it all back on.
If it's not normal, I guess I'll see if my friendly electrician is about.
I only wanted to move the socket up 12"
