Release rollers clamp.
Pull wire from tip end towards you.
Should come freely with little resistance.
Never heard of anyone lubing wire.
Cut and fit a length of plastic or rubber to fit between sides of roll and over top of wire.

This kept crap off wire and slowed oxidation.
If not using for a period, we had ovens at work to store in.
Pierce a disposable ear plug through wire before rollers.
