Amazing engineering in both the building of the ship , the size of the thing - twice the size of the titanic, and the salvage of it. How on earth did the owners let that plonker captain it ? The phone call the coast guard made to the captain was hilarious or would have been if people hadn't died, he tore strips off him.
What has been the total cost of this calamity ? I heard between the cost of the ship and the salvage costs £1.5b ?

£1.6b that's some amount.. I wonder how many jobs that created
The salvage alone cost £500 million so far, the ship cost £372 million to build, don't know how much it will cost to get the ship good enough to tow away and then the cost of cutting up etc. I suppose all the european health and safety rules and reg's will apply, not like beaching it in india to be pulled to bits paying people a few pence a day. Its going to take a good bit of work yet as they have said it cannot be moved until the new year.
Of course there will be millions paid in compensation to those hurt on board and the families of the dead.

We think as a race we can do anything and we can do some amazing things, but dont it make you feel small when nature can be bigger, bad'der and smash anything we make with what seems like just a little back handed slap. Also as far as nature is concerned it is all forgotten in minutes like floods and huge waves, tornados etc, within minutes its gone and we are left with nothing just a mess to clear up!

Exactly!, how could that much sand be moved in a relatively short time by water and wind ? and it take us weeks and months with our biggest kit just to move what is left?
WOW!!
Also whole cities missing with one seemingly small wave ( in the greater picture of things),
just coz a couple of plates have moved (tectonic ones) just a few feet!
We can do a lot though, just think if we were built like ants?
