cost of postage

Went to order a regulator the other day off a well known company. Couldn't find the prices for postage on the site so did the chat thing. Gave my postcode, waited, reply came, thankfully I was sitting down. £25 postage, I know I live on the end of a peninsula but it's not on the other side of the world

I hate the Scottish tax for deliveries. I live --> <-- that far from Englandshire and they treble the price. Grrr

Unless I'm desperate for something, I refuse to order it online if there's a surcharge for the Highlands [despite the listing saying "UK mainland"]. There are even some which say they won't post to the Scottish Highlands.......

Went to order some blank 12-bore cartridges, pack of 20 which would have fitted in a small box - That'll be "£25 p&p please"....no it won't.

I paid about 25 pounds for a 20kg delivery to Sweden. Some years ago, but yet difficult to see how it can sky rocket like that...

verry true i get whinged at about the price when doing jobs out in the sticks . 1 hour there and back and half hour to do the job take it or leave it thats why i lve on the edge of town. best of both worlds

Yes very true but a first class stamp costs the same where ever you are in the GB. So why should the cost of a parcel alter by £19, the same lorry brings the letters and parcel.

Volume, simple as that. The letters don't get delivered with the parcels - and that's if your using royal mail. Cost of running the business is the same but with much lower numbers. Big difference between letters and parcels, letters are a right parcels are not.

Because the postage of letters is HEAVILY subsidised in rural areas by those in more central urban areas as the service was set up that way many years ago under various acts of parliament. Maybe post in Scotland should be 'devolved' to the Scottish parliament so that the true cost is borne by the actual users ?

Even here in rural Sussex I cannot believe that the cost of stamps covers the actual cost of delivery.

If you shop around I actually think delivery costs are very reasonable. Recent examples I had this week - a pallet with a large industrial horizontal band saw - central Scotland to Sussex £60 (Speedshift.co.uk) - a lathe coolant tank and pump - Norfolk to Sussex £9.99 (Parcelforce via P4D.co.uk))

That does look a good price for those I items, I presume a band saw is heavy. A regulator isn't that heavy and to charge £25 is taking the Michael.

We post out around 50 or 60 parcels every day and it always sends a shudder down my spine at the rates the post office charge these days

Well don't use the post office! I put my parcels through P4D.co.uk - you get the same carriers at a lower price !!

Really annoys me when ebayers that use RM charge a huge bolt on price for delivery to here when RM is a flat charge across the UK.

i had to send something to the south and it was twice as much as sending it to NI
i ended up sending it to one of his friends in NI 3 miles down the road from him!!!

I knew a guy from Cork who bought boxes of octane booster from England, got them posted to me, I drove 6 miles into ROI and posted them to him, saving him £30 per box postage!

Once a parcel crosses the NI/ROI border there is roughly a £15 charge on it so it's handy for me being close to the border.

When I need to get a package from UK to Ireland I use Parcel Motel who have a depo in Antrim (Night Line) then drop it at a locker local to you for E3.95 per drop. Have been using the service for over 2 years and had no problems
