Who was the decent price with? Always good to know stuff like this as I get the occasional thing done now and againI called.them to check the price
Apparently as the are an large size for little coverage they need to try and fit it in the large tank with other jobs which makes it less viable. So reason for £20.
So I called around and spoke to folk and got a cracking price. £1.10p a kilo so in all for the 10 I have so around £40 for the lot.and 5 day turnaround.
More like it. Happy days.
I used to build a batch of launching trollies for dinghies once in a while, used to get them done at Rayleigh, He retired & packed it in.
last lot i had done at South east galvanisers at Witham a few years back, they obviously didnt want small batch orders & it was bloody steep then.
I hate to think what they would charge today, probably cheaper to make them out of stainless!

Cant remember the last bloke at Rayleigh's name, His predecessor was Tony? I seem to remember he packed it after lowering a hollow section into the galv tank & there was still some liquid in the section & there was a steam blow up, molten zinc came over the screen & he got splashed.I used to use him a lot, cant remember his name but a nice bloke. Used to do a great job too. He hated LandRover owners cause they were too fussy!!
Dressed in holey rags from the acids rotting his clothes and a shed filled with an acid smell that would choke you!!
I think it's expensive because of the transport cost ! But as I said customer wanted it done !yes but you said `Ouch` so what was paid even at £1:08p kg is expensive. ?
Looks a standard job
That's rough, send it back and get them to strip and regalv.
Galvanising is a fairly brutal industrial coating, it's never going to be perfect, but that's not the best, albeit i've seen worse.
There's usually always a bit of fettling needed.
The hinges were always going to seize up. They need to be galvanised as separate parts then assembled afterwards.
