Hi all , I'm going to try my welder out this weekend and wondered what gauge setting I need to set my gas regulator at . It's for a argon shield bottle .the regulator is a SWP dual gauge type .
We use around 10-11l per min usually and adjust from there. If you look on the tutorials bit of the forum there is advice about how the welds look with too much or too little gas that might be helpful.
Depends very much on where your welding. If your in a draft free little shop and your shroud is nice and clean you can happily go down to 8lpm. If you are outside in the wind or drafts then you could need as much as 15lpm.
I run mine at around 7-8lpm working in my cosy shack.
I would say start around ten and working on a piece of scrap gradually turn the gas down until it loses effectiveness and then go back up a bit.
Ok will give it ago .to give a spot weld type weld do you use about a 5mm drill to make a hold in the top plate ?I used to do get good clean results doing it that way on body work but as it was over 20 years ago I can remember the size hole I was drilling
10lpm would be a good ball park for a small machine, perhaps slightly more than is needed, but will allow for any effectiveness you may loose from stretching at the end of the weld or inconsistent torch distances.
