Correct grade of steel for bucket pins.

Hello all, can anyone advise on what grade of steel I would be best ordering for bucket pins on a tracked loading shovel ? The originals are 2.5 inch diameter. They run in greased bushes in the loader frame. Cheers Chris.

You’re either in the camp of soft pins and hard bushes or hard pins and hard bushes.

A lot of pins are low alloy steel then case hardened. EN30 or 36 I can’t recall.

People say don’t use EN24 because it is through hardened, but to be honest you’d have to be smashing the granny out of a machine to fatigue EN24 in the tempered condition.

I’d probably use EN16 and just use hard bushes.
