I've worked for a big corporation for 23 years and in the early years the stupid nonsense type stuff can get to you but you soon get to the point where you ask yourself "Am I still going to get paid if I don't do this" if the answer is yes then don't stress about it.
We watch things happen that are a total waste of time every day of the week, people who seemingly have nothing better to do but sadly you'll find that the rules were brought in by someone 4-5 levels up who doesn't understand you job so there is no way you are ever going to change it.
The corporate world runs on perception, it doesn't matter what you are doing as long as your manager thinks you work hard and do a good job. I haven't physically seen my manager in 18months.
We had a email recently with a challenge that had a $300 prize. The winners would be people who had upped their call rate by 10% or decreased their repair time by 10%. For some reason they can't see that it's totally obvious to us what the next step after increasing call rate and decreasing repair time is and certainly won't be to employ more staff
Most of work is for customers who have already paid up front for 3-5 year maintenance so every day it's quiet we are making more money than we would if it was busy but they just see that as having uneeded resource.
