Cornish Mining

On the radio this morning there are extensive deposits of lithium in Cornwall which could resurrect mining in Cornwall.

The interviewee said "Lithium was a hot commodity"

Its normally the local workers spending there wages each week locally that props up a community when a company invests not the company owner or directors..

My ancestors moved to Birmingham when the mines were closing, they came with the Tangye brothers to set up an iron foundry in Smethwick.

Some folks who live in Smethwick get quite upset when you call them Brummies , Tangyes is usually quoted as a Birmingham company even though it was just over the border in Smethwick. I can't say much as I now live in Birmingham

Maybe true with the profit from the material, however the boost to infrastructure, roading companies, railway companies, local businesses that have an influx of workers, diesel mechanics, catering and service personel is what counts. We used to have Lafarge and Cemex in Buxton, both very much offshore companies but if the quarries pulled out the impact to not only the county but the whole region would be huge
