The description says not for drilling concrete but if I play a hose on it will this drill through my garage slab and footings? Got to get a duct in for underground services.

I got into core drilling a long time ago and have a decent complement of core bits coupled with a Milwaukee core drill.

I can understand caution about reinforced concrete, ( rebar or that type of thing), but most core bits hitting that type of thing are going to lose but the non reinforced comment puzzle me.

Although nice to have do you need to have a 11 piece set?

Concrete as in concrete oversites will be cement and ballast with quite big stones in, you wont find them in concrete building blocks. I would imagine its the stone element the cheap core drills cant handle.

With all abrasives, you need a soft bond for cutting hard materials and a hard bond for cutting soft materials.

Those ones are for soft stuff, so would have a hard bond. If you try to use them on hard concrete, they will glaze over* and not cut.

The soft bond used for hard materials allows the abrasive material to separate from the tooth and expose fresh cutting edges.

It is a similar story for diamond grinder blades: you need (are supposed to use) a hard-bonded one to cut asphalt and a soft-bonded one to cut concrete.

* the sharp edges of the diamond wear out on the hard material, but because the diamond is stuck firmly in the matrix due to the hard bond, it cannot fall off and let a new one start doing the work.

I've done this in the opposite corner "on the cheap" the other year to get a length of DNO duct in. Nearly killed me. I destroyed a Metabo SDS then two Parkside ones. Along with a couple of metre long bits that i got stuck. A bfo Titan drill got me through in the end. This was using a 65mm tct core bit on a home made extension / arbor. It was still so tight I had to haul the duct through with an electric engine hoist. At the end of the day the position where it came up was a few inches off. What I need is like a metre long core bit.

What size core drill are you after? Got a few proper ones here with extensions you can borrow.

You're a gent but I reckon postage to Kent might kill it?

This concrete is made with ballast. The footings are 3-4' deep and have galvanised wire rope laid in them (I've some rough cores from the first hole somewhere). The duct I have is C3 60/50 Cable Duct the DNO use. Getting it through a 65mm hole was a bitch. I reckon it's got to 100mm and ideally about 3' long.

Gimme a call I'll come and sort it for you. I don't carry any drilling gear nowadays but I can get hold of some easily enough.If it's a straight piece of 60mm duct you could have a 78mm or a 92/102/107mm hole for it.

Getting the duct through the 65mm hole was a total mission. I had to put a 12mm bar through the duct to attach a chain, then use the leccy engine hoist. One of those jobs I look back on having done but aren't anxious to do again the same way!
