copper washers

quick question. Is it copper compression washers? That i need to use for my.diesel injector on my tractor. the normal flat ones just leak.

What do you mean by normal?

as @Seadog they may need annealing although some come ready to use

New ones should be ready to go, old ones need to be anneled, as said.

Some after markets injectors, or refurbished do need a compression washer.

I not heard of new ones requiring annealing. Just need to do used ones.

When we do the injectors on emergency power systems. The injectors mostly come with a compression copper washer..

If we go up market they injectors come with a tool to clean the seat.

It is a metal cutter on a recycled plastic handle.

I think a toffee hammer is better.

That’s what I wondered. Yup they’ll never seal, you need copper ones to compress a bit to make the seal.

I got a set of replacement seals for Transit injectors this year. They had flat washers.

Copper washers won’t seal if the seat is in poor condition , often caused when an injector seal has failed in the first place .

There will also be different thicknesses of washers depending on type of injector, I found a lot of them are punched and so have been hardened somewhat in manufacture. Make sure the seat is clean and level, if needed recut, I usually anneal all copper injector seat washers as a matter of course.

The leak off rail on older stuff often have a compression Ali washer where the other 2 washers are copper

Check the "copper washers" with a magnet! Brittania restorations on you tube was showing a chinese made landrover gasket set last week where all the copper washers for the injectors were actually copper plated steel! Absolutely useless, and the threads would strip before you got them to seal!

The all important bit, crud builds up around the outside of these old injectors in the pocket and it will fall down as soon as they are pulled, well worth cleaning them out prior to refitting.

Just tested a Lister OE copper injecter washer.

The magnet picked it up.

Cut it in half, all copper.

Same with pennies, they will pick up with a magnet.

The Inject and fuel line washer we get are all from china.

We can get some real dirt cheep ones and they are sh1t.
Or we get OE ones and they do the job, just as the after markets ones from a decent supplier.
