Copper grease/anti-seize/grease questions

Is "copper grease" as traditionally used on brake pads/pistons the same stuff as copper "anti-seize" as put on threads to prevent corrosion?
If not, what anti-seize should I get? Ideally that won't interfere with torque specs?


What sort of grease should I be looking at to grease rubber bushings (specifically sway bar bushing)

I think any lubricant is going to interfere with torque settings, unless it is specified as being lubed. I have used Rocol J166, now called Anti Seize Compound, for years. It is a bit thicker than most copper greases, and I use it for everything with no problems at all. It is intended for marine environments and does not wash off easily.

For rubber bushings though, you need silicone grease.

Check with the vehicle manufacturer - many are fitted dry, some are fitted with a water based lubricant and require some time to dry out before use. Inappropriate use of lubrication may well damage or negate the effect of the bushes. Anti-roll bar bushes take a hell of a lot of stress and I've seen them pushed out of the fixings due to incorrect use of lubrication to make installation 'a bit easier'.

'Copperslip' and similar should be consigned to the 1970's IMO, no brake pads should be slathered in it as they now have far more efficient coatings applied at manufacture. Tefgel is probably the most benign coating, but again, it will affect torque. If it's meant to be dry, it's for a reason.

I guess I'm overthinking it, as usual.

I will get some silicone grease for the sway bar bushings, as the "instructions" do say to apply grease, but otherwise leave well alone.

Silicone sealant on exposed bolt ends, maybe? After torquing up.
It's a land cruiser, so I'm expecting a bit of mud.

just a smear of copperslip on exposed threads will be good no need to clart silicone sealant on it

I'd agree with that - apply after torquing to prevent ingress of moisture / mud etc.

Clean it, dry it, wrap everything in Denso tape.

Had a guy at work kept taking it home for his Hilux.
