Cookerhood trim cutting (SS)

You know the stainless cooker hoods, and the trims they supply...sometimes they need to cut down.

Generally about 0.9mm DP1/PC1 Stainless... I always cut the plastic with a blade, peel back an inch or so on the good bit, and cut with a thin disc, remove minimal burr with a quick swipe with a file....

Out of interest, how would you do it....?

Hi Hitch,

I had to cut back the artificial top chimney part of cooker hood I fitted at home this weekend, I think it was thinner than .9 tho? I just marked off with a pen on the protective plastic what I wanted rid of, then I cut with 12" straight tin snips, short cuts only, did not want to leave those annoying indents when one follows right through with snips, then dressed over anvil with planishing hammer. but this was a fairly large piece of s/s and easier to cut with snips (see Brew room "triffic afternoon" post 6 top vert part was cut)

Replying to remainder of your question, depending on material thickness and shape, I would lean towards use of hacksaw, protective plastic can be left insitu, no scorch marks to buff out, for me, more control than a disc running at x amount rpm, especially when commencing the hard bit, initial cut.

I did mine with my old lincoln plasma, I think the hypertherm might be a bit OTT tho...

Might be a bit thinner than 0.9mm, thinking about it.
