Got a call today from brother in law, the new cooker has stopped working and the cable has melted.
I said what near cooker or socket no all along its length and the fuse has tripped.
you have had a new cooker a few weeks ago havnt you? yes, well how was it wired ? with the original cable he said, that should be ok shouldnt it. Well maybe depends on the kw of the old and new.
Then it hit me hang on your old cooker was gas, it hasnt been wired with the flex for the gas cooker, yes it was working the gas cooker!!!
I think the clue is in the names GAS and ELECTRIC.
dont do anything I am coming down sure enough the cooker was wired up with .5mm flex!!and it had melted the full length.
I had taken with me a piece of 4mm flex and some 6mm twin and earth, Lets Get the manual out
9.9KW!!! in the specs it says 32A fuse and supply cable req. 2.5mm !!! that cannot be correct.
I checked the fuse 32A b breaker / wired fuse converter
The cooker socket was over the cooker and then down buried conduit to a normal light switch, under the units not even a switched fuse spur, then .5 flex wired to the cooker.
I stripped off the light switch to see 2.5 down from the cooker switch, that is not right either I said stripped the cooker switch off, single 2.5 down buried conduit spurred from somewhere upstairs two double sockets either side of the kitchen were also dead.
So now we have a 9.9 kw and single socket cooker switch wired in 2.5 also powering two double sockets !!!
I think we need to have a rethink on this !!
but I need to feed the family
right ok I will fit some cable and a 13A plug you can only use two things at once. Till this gets sorted properly!!
2 x small rings 1200W
2 x large ring 1700 W
grill 2.2kw
oven 1.9kw
Running off 2.5mm !!
