Cooker has packed up

Hotpoint built in cooker, was in the house when we moved in, the grill,oven above works ok,but the main oven doesn't.
The temperature indicator light works, the fused switch light is lit.

When I first looked at it the fan was turning , light was on but no heat,Then light went out although it obviously hadn't reached heat ,now the fan has stopped working , light still working though...so not all bad.
Fixable?

take the back off mate and check the wires and connectors mostly spade conectors then check the element for resistance.

I checked one for a mate last week new element from online jobs a goodun

Probably the element has gone
Turn power off an disconnect the element wires, measured from the terminals you should get a reading of about 20-30 ohms on a good one.
Edit.
If it's shorted to earth or you can't get a reading at all then it's fubar.

MAKE SURE THE POWER IS OFF sorry but safety first

if its a built in cooker you may need even not need to remove the back of the cooker there is normaly a metal plate in the back over the fan unit behind that around the out side of the fan is normaly the heater held by 2 or 4 screws remove the screws and gently pull on the element and you should see the slide conectors when you pull them off dont let them go back in the hole use something like a washing line peg to hold it from pulling back dont pull it to far you only need about an inch or less just enought for you to get a finger on and pull the conector off and dont catch the insulation on the hole edge as its normaly sharp

look over the element lots when blown you can easy see where thay have blown some not

lots of the element are generaic and are very cheap of the bay of thives these people are on ebay and are normaly one of the cheapest

We have a Hotpoint cooker that was bought new. Biggest waste of money we have ever spent. It's not a good old traditional British but crappy Polish built. Was delivered with damaged that was done before dispatch yet attitude was repair when in customers home. Fan has failed twice which results in element burning out. Genuine parts use both time for repair but that hasn't made it any more reliable and fan keeps stopping again so has to be spin with chopstick when power off to unstick. In storage we have a sub year old Belling cooker (got for daughter but she has move to apartment with built in) that is going to be used when fan finally seizes and even though Hotpoint cooker is around 5 years old it's going to the tip.
Hotpoint - a good brand made bad by cost accountants moving production overseas
