Converting to use gas?

Hi all!

I'm new to all this, and although I'm trying to sign up on a night course in September I'd quite like to get a headstart by buying some kit and having a go (I did some very bad gas welding years and years ago!)...

I have seen this gasless rig:

is that suitable for converting to a gas setup, and if so roughly what cost would be involved?

Yeah Jup,
It is convertable to work with gas - and if I remember correctly, it would cost about £39 to convert.

Yes you can convert that model to run on gas; approximately £25 to run from disposable canisters or around £40 to run from refillables (+ the cost of the refillable cylinder).

Thanks fellas... weldequip... I assume you have the stuff needed. How much would carriage be to GU47 area please? Also, would you say this would be a decent setup for the price for someone starting out and with a Mini to rebuild?

That's very decent kit for starters & will do anything on a Mini. If it's a full on restoration I would forget the disposable canisters though & go straight onto a proper, refillable cylinder.

Oh right, you've done the sensible thing then. Argoshield Light is the stuff (or Coogar 5 from Air Products). Your only mistake is buying the machine itself from a box-mover!

Thing about buying through ebay, is it comes off my paypal a/c which in turn comes off my Visa card, which is actually confiscated and under lock and key with the Mrs

Righty ho... the gas regulator arrived yesterday but noone was in so I picked it up from the depot this morning... nicely packaged and in good order, thanks Weldequip!!

Quick check... it seems that the knob on the regulator is letting gas in when wound clockwise, and stopping the flow when wound anti-clockwise... is this correct? I haven't actually got the welder yet so it's not urgent
