converting Mp3 to a cd

A bit of an emnbaressing problem here. I think of myself as been pretty tech savvy, computer wise. Was building my own PCs back in the windows 95 days and owned Amigas's before that. So it it with some personal annoyance with myself that i am asking for advice here.

But this problem has been baffling me for a few weeks now. I just cant seem to get a conversion of Mp3 to work when burned to a cd, it always starts to burn then stops before the end with some error. It is not the burner (i dont think anyway) as it burns dvds and data discs fine. I have tried many progs to no avail. I have tried Nero and Roxio creator, both of which i have legally installed on my computer (just in case anyone thought it might have been a dodgy bit of disc burner software)

What free programs are the hip and cool kids computer nerds out there using these days to burn new cds? Also are there any free disc burner progs out there that are any good? Can anyone help?

iirc media player does ot by default and you have to tell it to burn mp3 to disks

are you sure that the files your trying to burn are not corrupt? or have you tried with different files?

some makes of discs can be greatly disliked by certain burners and that is why you can burn DVD's fine..

what is the error the software is giving you? both Roxio and Nero should give you a log.

I've used hooky copies of Nero and Roxio without issue, so I doubt it'd be the software itself.
Buffer under-running? Some writers are more prone to this than others. Or, do you have lots of other crap running in the background, maybe the CPU doesn't have enough RAM to play with (audio being space-hungry of course).
You could try writing at the burner's slowest speed; I do this because I find if I burn on the higher speeds and try to use the CD in the car, it hops skips and jumps like a 5-year-old on Sunny Delight - it's as though the laser burns deeper pits on slow-write which are easier to read. Different issue I know, but maybe worth a try...

Back in the old days I used to have to defrag the disk before burning a CD. I also found it best to convert the file to ISO format (before defragging) and burn that.

The latest/current version of Windows Media Player will burn CDs as either Audio CDs, or MP3 Data, by default. I've not had any issues.

I know it's basic but are you trying to burn audio cd's using DVD discs? I once tried this but I don't know all that much about computers.

Nah, though good question. No i am using Cds and changing the config to burn cd.

Thats why its so puzzling. I cant figure what i am doing wrong.

sorry I must be missing something

as I understand

MP3 on PC
to copy to MP3 onto cd or (use nero or MP)
to copy as audio track onto CD (use MP)

afaik you cannot rip, convert to mp3 & write on the fly

also if the MP3's are protected ... download from itunes or others they will be very dificult to do (you need to hack the protection)

Are you creating a music cd from mp3 tracks or making a data cd that so that the mp3s stay as mp3s?

What does the nero log say?

Open the error log using notepad, its usually in C:\Documents and Settings\your pc username\Application Data\Nero\Nero #\Nero Burning ROM\NeroHistory.log (# is your version number) If its not there, run a search for nerohistory.

Run a search (edit tab- find) for the word failed. Once its found it, scroll up till you find something similar to:

Windows Vista 6.1 (This is what comes up for windows 7 so it may be different for you)
IA32
WinAspi: -

NT-SPTI used
Nero Version: (Version number you use)

Copy everything from your windows version down to the first instance of this:

Existing drivers:

Registry Keys:
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\WinLogon
====== *** Nero Burning ROM, History File *** ======

I would say most likley you have a corrupt MP3 - simply take it out of the running order in Nero (nest software ive found) and try again, see if it goes past it.

Did you mean 'Audio CD'. I haven't used nero for ages, I thought you went for an audio CD option and it did any necessary conversions.
