evening all.
just having a bit of a think about converting my gasless mig to a 'proper' mig so to speak.
at the moment i am using my father in laws snap on 150 am machine, but that has to go back in a few days as he has a few jobs on.
now, i cant afford to buy a welder (yet), and seeingthe difference the solid wire and shielding gas has made using the same settings as my welder is making me think i would benefit from having a machine that runs solid wire and gas.
so, the plan is, buy a torch from another welder, or possibly a euro conversion in needs be and connect it in reverse polarity to the way it is now (so the correct way for normal mig)
buy this:

and then make a hole in the front panel of the welder to accept the gas hose from the bottle and connect it to the solenoid.
i have already found a good 24V dc source inside the machine to run the solenoid from, and have a good solid place to mount it.
plenty of space inside for a gas hose and relevant connections.
one thing i would like to know though, with a normal mig, does the solenoid valve work from the trigger of the torch, or from a point that only becomes live when the trigger is pulled.
i.e. does the + of the solenoid run through the trigger switch or not?
