Yea, I'm confident enough setting the top slide and I've found a carbide tipped tool in my box o' bits which should help attack the shaft.

But with longer soft wood clamping around the reamer bit?
Think I'd be tempted to try to squeeze it all in close to the headstock and drive off the tang if I can fit everything in there
did u center drill the tang and then use a rotary or fixed tailstock center to hold it when machining ??
would have been easier to turn and more acurate given all that overhang out of chuckNope!
