Thanks for all the comments. What I'm going to try and do is .. nothing until I get that M10x1.0 die. Then I can try and redo the tread, see how strong that feels before deciding how to lock it. Trying to make removable if possible.
I say "try" because I might possibly need it in a hurry, in which case I have to make do with what I have right now, which would be welding the lever on place.
