If you take away the fact that he's your mate, you have someone illegally impounding someone's vehical, demanding a form of ransom or black mail, due to, possibly, a mistake on behalf of the other party. You have given us no information to the country, despite my query as to adequate signage.

The company was installing fibre cable and there had been a huge number of complaints about it's wilful damage and disruptive attitude to properties all along the route of the job for many weeks. They actually rented a completely inappropriate yard near me and there were so many complaints about the 24 hr noise dust and disturbance that the whole lot was closed down and ordered to vacate the premises by the Environment Agency.

No question of a mistake, just bully boy tactics, plain and simple.

They eventually lost the contract midway through.

I don't think society round here would back you up on what constitutes illegal demands, but they know what is a proper nights rent and right and proper response to their actions.

I have 2 lines of thought regarding parking, and like you i don't tolerate any Tom, Dick or Harry parking inconsideralely outside my house.
On the other hand if it's works vehicles, contractors or vans working at neighbours houses i tend to make allowances as there often is no alternative.
The big problem these day's are the scrotes stealing tools off vans, so understandably tradesmen like to be able to keep an eye on their van.
In your position i would have had a word with the boss saying parking is bad here but you can use my patch if i'm not there. That keeps Tom, Dick and Harry off it also.
One of the reasons i moved to France years ago was parking wars !!

Electric board were replacing a pole earlier in the year opposite my house, it’s not great for parking out on the street but I have parking for more than I need. The guys asked if I would mind them putting a couple vans on the drive so I obliged.
I know some take the P but if it’s some workers doing a job and I can make it slightly easier then I’m happy to assist, no skin off my nose and i don’t look like ‘that‘ guy.

Exactly this. If people ask - people will generally try and help out.
When people take a flyer, people get annoyed, especially on their property.
Usually only takes minutes to ask and usually get a result

murphys were digging a trench along the slip road to my house was going to take 3 days .they were going to take the mini digger back each night in case it got nicked . wasting time i said just park in in my drive and il park van behind it gates locked and censors round the house gets the job finished faster everyone happy

had a bust up with neice and her boyfriend about the same thing though parked on the driveway itself all caused by the brother

he had consented to them parking on the drive never asked

hes got a drive himself but where i do the repairs i like access quickly and where needed if no access due to others parking i aint going to go around them got sick of it over a period of time

cant weld cant grind for there car cant even use the level driveway because of them

she got told to be decent and ask to park there which she never has done
he got the same comment she mouthed it and she caught it back as she never comes round much and its your grandma

well her biyfriend said come and find me if you want it moved

A farmer friend had this, all their stuff parked overnight in his paddock, he got there first in the morning,parked his car across the gate and said £300 or you don't work today. They said they'd just drive out through the hedge, he said that'll cost £500.

I had a yard full of contractor's gear a couple of years ago. I was a bit annoyed when they simply dumped their canteen trailer without asking, but after I pointed out that it would be nice if they did, they did.
