Reserved a new build house (yes, I know, move on!).
The CU is at the 1350-1450mm switch height. This would not be an issue if it were also in a logical user location like a utility room, cupboard, cloakroom, garage etc but it isn't.
It is slap bang in the middle of the study wall, directly opposite the meter box, presumably where it was cheapest and easiest to install.
It isn't even a reasonable looking recessed unit - it's an ugly utilitarian cheap-looking rectangular metal box that belongs in a barn.
This height precisely coincides with the fixed shelves of my study bookcases.
The builder refuses to move it up to clear the shelf citing Part M as mandatory.
If I ask an independent electrician to move it up so the base is at 1450mm to clear the fixed shelf (or even better at 1985mm to clear the bookcases entirely) is he/she likely to be willing to do so or will I get the Part M is Mandatory mantra?
Then the utterly unreasonable and impossible question. If an electrician agrees to move it what price should I budget for? £250/500/750? No decorative 'making good' would be included.
(I will learn to live with the ludicrously low light switches and high socket outlets.)
