Evening. As I put in the Project section I'm having a crack at making an electric wacker plate. I last welded in "anger" about 32 years ago as an apprentice. Did MAG, MIG, TIG and gas. Somehow I "passed" all the tests having little bits and pieces cut in half and dye tested. Since then I've arc welded some nuts on to studs to make long bolts, made some Uni-strut bracing for a shelf and that's about it! So new Chinese arc welder bought (it looked small and neat............and was cheap):
The only rods I have I think came from Screwfix many years ago. Were stored in the garage but then brought out and left to "dry" atop the kitchen cupboard over the oven. They are discoloured as per the picture:
Will they "dry" out and are they worth carrying on using or should I bin them?
So needed to weld this up for a start:
And then down to the nasties. I've noticed a lot of slag inclusion:
So, is there any hope for me? I know I'm more than a bit stop/start at the moment! Once the arc is struck the welder actually sounds quite smooth to my untrained ears. Not helped as I'm running on HIGH via a 13A plug top so a few fuses have gone. Going to put it on it's own 20A breaker which should help.
Cheers
