connecting PS3 to monitor

Junior has bought a PS3 for himself.
We dont have a telly, but we do have a spare LCD monitor.
Is it a simple scart to PS3 lead we need or something more complicated.

What inputs do you have on the monitor and what do you have on the PS3 (whatever that is) ?

Most monitors are VGA so if the PS3 has a VGA output then you are in business. Most other options will require a converter of some sort.

If the monitor has HDMI then that may be another possibility.

It is possible if you have DVI input on your monitor.
It takes a few adapters to do it as the HDMI to DVI cable does not carry sound.
I shall try and explain it so bear with me
First you need a HDMI to DVI connector that will carry the picture to the monitor,thats the easy part.
To get the sound to your PC speakers you need to get a playstation AV to RCA cable(white,red,yellow) and connect the red and white outputs to a female to female double phono adapter coupler which then in turn connects to a RCA to 3.5mm jack that attaches to a 3.5mm female socket to socket adapter that conects to the male 3.5 plug on your speakers
I did it myself recently and it took a bit of googling to find out what to do but i got there in the end and i now dont have to wait for the kids and missus to be in bed before i can use the bloody thing
I hope that makes sense to you,i got all my cables through Amazon and the total amount was about £25 so not an expensive project

Barney if you could list the cables for me that would be great.
At them moent we have it working but in blessed silence.
Years back we bought a small box thingy to connect the old playstation to the computer and we are putting it through that, but there is no sound.

The PS3 is supplied with a 'euro av connector' that takes the three leads from the player and connects them to the TV, is there an adaptor to go from the three leads to a scart socket on the monitor?

We will get it sorted, then all hell breaks out as he is murdering in Iraq, just now my little cherub was making gun and helicopter noises himself. Aaaaaaahhh, how sweet.

Looking at this stuff sets me off on a favourite rant. We should standardise everything, two sizes of screws, one style of valve for tyres, look at pushbikes, there are at least three sizes of 20" wheel, sorry getting of track there.

To use the cable you have linked you need a convertor which cost about £100 ,so that is why i went down the lots of cables but cheaper option
As you already have the picture i will just link the cables you need for sound
