Conifer tree roots

Laurel tree in son's garden got too big (massive) so he chopped it off leaving a 7' high stump for leverage, we dug all around it to about 3' deep cutting of all the roots we could see, put a 1/2 ton chain block from the top of stump to a full 8 ton skip and ended up moving the skip 4"towards the tree
Stumped (sorry) for what to do next we left it overnight and luckily the council came do the road surface the following day and the lads pushed it over with their JCB pecker for us.
Looks like it was just the weight of the intertwined roots and soil holding it there, then we spent hours cleaning out the soil and cutting bits off before we could fit and manhandle it into the trailer.

If it's a conifer and you have removed all the green bits then it's already dead, they don't regrow from the stump like a normal tree, they won't even regrow if you prune them too hard.

I work in forestry and have done for 30 odd years. When the trees are felled, it is almost always below the last whorl of branches which should normally kill them. Sometimes when you walk over a clearfell you will see regrowth coming from the bottom of the stumps. Boring into the stump and applying poison will definitely kill it

Pulled a Laural hedge out yesterday 4 Mtrs high cut to 2 Mtr stumps 100/150mm dia, dug with slew broke big roots and pushed over, big root balls on all of them.
The Laylandii in there were a much easier removal.
Dam thing got too wide @8ob easier to remove and start again with just one plant not the mix, got some nice 1 Mtr ones to plant
