Confused

I have to admit to being a tad confused ...(for my first post back) can someone please explain to me how you can run say a 180 / 220 amp tig from a three pin domestic plug...no I have not been at the funny gas....but all the welders at my local college including the two that I used on my course ( EWM and Fronius ) are all fitted with domestic three pin plugs which go into ( albeit industrial metal surface mount ) domestic three pin sockets arranged in a ring main around the workshop walls...

My main reason for asking is that I have just specified a new Lorch T220 AC / DC for the welding bay at work.....

Hi Wyn, I know they are bloody clever machines...but the fuse spec is 16A

Ah! i misunderstood your first post.

I suppose you need to run them flat out for a while to be using the full 16 amps.

Most welding would probably be less than this so could get away with a 13 amp fuse, it could also be a bit more expense to add a 16 amp supply.

In the states the wire to the welder can also be smaller, because the duty cycle of the welder allows the power wires time to cool.
