Condensation ahead

Given the weather forecast is for summer in 2 days, the temperature change is likely to cause condensation in sheds and garages, like it did a few weeks/months ago.

I remember opening the garage after the last warm snap and it caused all tools and bikes to get soaked.

A few days ago, Saturday's early hours of the morning low was forecast to be -10degC. It's since been revised upwards to -4degC. Still worth putting some heat on in the workshop tomorrow morning, methinks, to get the machinery and tools ready for the forecast high of +11degC, and fairly humid, on Sunday.

Similar here the bad snap we had caused a canny bit of condensation in the garage now I've got loads of mould to clean off the underside of the new plywood , garage was re roofed in the summer

You won't believe how many calls i have had in the last few months from work recently completed, customers swearing on kids lives and everything that there roofs are leaking when i go back and explain they are so apologetic. The worst culprits are freezers and tumble driers creating warmth in an otherwise ice cold garage.

And all they have to do is ventilate to reach an equilibrium, common sense not rocket science.

Or take my advice at estimating stage and go for a "warm roof void" insulation on the roof top before roof covering and close all vents and facia gaps to eliminate cold air getting in.

I will bow to your experience @roofman I was referring to an uninsulated garage and especially to a garage workshop where people have tools and machinery who are having condensation problems.

Yes i know you were and you are entirely right about equal inside/outside temps, My insulation specs are a solution to fix the problem. Sorry i should of been more clear in my reply

Rapid temperature rise causing rust - check your workshops!

It looks like the rapid temperature increase today has caused condensation in my workshop which has never happened before. Mine is built from insualted panels so I've never had any problem with rusting even in the worst weather and I've got a lot of bare cast iron stuff in there. I just went...

I do wish they'd sort it out (the predictions - I know they can't fix the weather!)

Just this morning the range for here was showing as -5 up to +5 over the next week, now it's showing +1 to +11.

I think I'll turn my garage dehumidifier back on. I always turn it off when it gets less than -2

I'm just having a single garage built, dutch barn type roof with ceiling separating roof and room.Either roof or ceiling will be insulated, am I better off insulating both?

A dehumidifier helps as does not opening roller shutter doors etc if you can help it.

I have a small pedestrian door in my garage I use it when humidity is around. If I open the shutter in a few mins the cars start to steam and condensate up.

I run a dehumidifier on low in my clarke tent garage also. It catches alot of water.

Whenever it's warm outside we open all the roller blind doors, as quite simply if it's warmer outside, it'll warm the workshop.

The workshop is an oven in summer, and a freezer in winter, it's ok spring and autumn, banging head against wall.

Makes no odds if it blows in on the wind - heat and a dehumidifier is the only answer then.

Insulate both, and if you face west like me make sure you close it tight.

Thanks, double insulated steel barn style doors will face north, double glazed windows on two sides, east and south facing.
