concrete ramp

Hi

I am in the process of altering my work shop and I will need to build a ramp.

These are very rough measurements 8ft wide 1ft high and span somewhere around 4ft.

My questions are. I have plenty of bricks should I build a wee wall or shutter it. Also laying bricks on to smooth concrete do I need to prep.them?.

Need to explain a bit better what you're doing mate. Are you making a 1 in 8 ramp 4 foot wide or a 1 in 4 ramp 8 foot wide or something else?

1 foot high at the top of ramp x 8 foot wide door way. There is an existing concrete floor there. That I am putting the ramp on top of. Which is about 4foot dead.

Is this any clearer?

If you are going to have concrete 1 foot high tapering down to nothing that is a solid block then I'd shutter.

If this is what you're making 8 foot wide by 4 foot going you'll need 16 cubic feet or just under half a cubic meter of concrete.

What are you going to be moving up the ramp, really heavy stuff/machines? Less incline the better imho, if space allows.

Plus a bit for the trench at the base of the ramp. I agree with SBF 1 in 4 is a bit steep.

Agreed you don't want the taper down to nothing at all.

Thank you all for the advice. It was just that is the size of existing concrete pad that is there. There is plenty of space to extend it. I am a bit away from doing it. I still have doors to make.

The door will just be bow section with sheets of steel riveted on.
