what are the two white rails on my computers motherboard ? i was operating on it yesterday fitting more ram memory when i seen them.

that is a PCI slot for an expansion card

the short black ones are PCI-Express x1 slots

you can add sound cards,networjk cards etc to your PC

Its a PCI slot.
PCI stands for Peripheral Component Inter Connect.
It is generally used for Graphic Cards, extra USB Port cards etc etc.

Thanks for the replies , i just wondered if there was something missing from it, the extra 4gb of ram has made the computer much better to use , no crashing or freezing up.

Right click my computer and go to properties and it will tell you all you need to know there..

If your machine was crashing with your old memory,That memory might, be faulty,but putting in extra may just be masking the fault, I would remove the old memory and test it with just the new 'stick/s', you might find it runs even better than combining good with poss bad.

There are 2 versions of most operating systems, 32bit (or X86) and 64 bit. If you are using the 32bit version then it won't be able to use more than 4GB of memory in total.

64bit operating systems can use up to 16 exabites of memory, in theory, but in practice up to 192GB for windows 7
