computer psu current ratings?

Had the idea to use a car fuel pump for a coolant feed on the lathe. Just pulled the pump out of a car which is going for scrap. It's an in tank pump from a petrol car, so is 12v DC.
Meaning I need a power supply if I wish to run it from the mains. I thought a PSU might do the trick but unsure what current they will deliver on the 12v DC connection. Should be plenty given the input of those things is never less than 300W, but does anyone know for certain?

Guess this fuel pump will use circa 4amps.

You will have to short out two pins to get it to switch on the colours of which escape me at the moment.
ratings of a atx -350w p4, one are}
+5v =25A
-5v=0.5V
+12v =10A
-12V =0.5A
+3.3V=28A
+5vsb =2A
so will run your pump no probs I guess.

ps short pins 14-15 = green to any black to energise

Like the idea of using an ATX power supply as a bench PSU, nearly went and looked for one in the loft before realising my ham radio power supply is variable and can deliver up to 25 Amps!

Phew, I feel I can 'come out' now and confess to having been a radio ham in my yoof

I recall some really old PC power supplies actually had a proper on/off switch on flying leads.

probaly find pc power supply of littel use for a fuel pump.

if its off an EFI car fuel pumps often take 8-10 amps some can be as high as 20, the biggest issue with pc supplyes is they have have short cuircuit protection on them, if i sees what appears to be a short circuit it immediatly powers down a large ish DC motor dose a very good inpression of a short cuircuit
