computers for video editing is all about the quality you edit/encode at, your videos on youtube are 720p - if that's what you're recording/editing at then you can get away with lower end stuff and they take up less storage space
if that works for you stick with that for now - later on if youtube is a success for you and if you want to bump the quality up then come back and ask again :-)
do you have a PC/mac already? - if you do it's pretty easy to copy stuff off your ipad onto them for storage

I'd be very careful about what you store on them - it's almost guaranteed that the flash memory inside will not be 1TB even though it displays as that. I would run h2testw to verify capacity: https://3ds.hacks.guide/h2testw-(windows).html

I’m recording at 1440p, just editing at the default and assumed it would remain at 1440p. I see there is an option to go to 1080p.
I don’t think my YouTube videos will ever be a success, old man posting videos of old Volvos. :-) but I do have a secret weapon I’m going to incorporate into my videos and take the Volvo 142 YouTube video world by storm. :-)
We have an old Mac and to be fair it might be time for a new one as it’s pretty clunk and not sure how much space it has left.

I just use Quik editing app, it’s super easy and flexible enough for what I’m doing. It’s just a bit of fun and doing something different. I may get bored and stop, but at the moment it’s something new.

what he's saying is they're probably not really 1tb
they'll report back to the computer as 1tb, and work/act fine... until you start to fill them up where they'll cack their pants :-o

The firmware can be changed to falsify the storage space available. How it deals with the lack of space is another matter - some may throw up an error and stop you writing, others may overwrite your existing data. That seller unfortunately seems to have multiple negative feedbacks with others reporting their 1Tb USB drives hold 15Gb, so worth doing a test just now to see what its real capacity is.

if its that mac base unit i think i remember you should be able to upgrade it by sticking a ssd drive into it copying everything onto the new ssd hard drive
should be alot quicker than what it is
if its the screen type one a bit harder but can be upgraded if you want to do
another bit of advice if your worried about a virus is having an offline pc whilst another is the online pc
the property where you live now is fast broadband but the cottage is not as i tested it often
i dont have a paid youtube account but a dailymotion account and it can take a while to upload video files onto it some of mine are 35 mins long
dropbox is same but that can take 50 mins to upload 512mb- 700mb ive tried it often and im on a fast net upload at that

Just checked, youngest has 102 go of music, videos and pics. All seems to be working ok
that 102gig you've already put on.... put another bunch of copies of the same thing (or anything) on it again and fill it up (you can literally just right click on stuff them copy and past)
see if anything weird happens, and if that first stuff you put on still works ok (songs still play etc.)
Have you considered a NAS device? Plug it into your home router and send data to it thru a web browser.

You also have to buy disk drives to fit in it. BUT, it takes multiple disks and if a single drive fails, it will not lose data.

important
if its anything important like photos or music or even important docs always make a back up of a back up
always remember anything can fail between hard drives, usb sticks , the worst ones are sd cards or micro cards
usb external hard drives was known to fail on there software sometimes people had to format that drive agaiin just to get it working again but lost there important stuff on there
