compressor very noisy

ok, so i took the belt guard and belt off and ran th motor, jeez thats one noisy motor, in my experience they were very quiet, i reckon this is the issue, so daleyd i think you might of saved me some cash buying a pump or time to fix mine then still needing a motor - big thanks

Well that's a turn up for the books! I was really (99%) expecting it to be the pump but just thought I'd mention it as I have been convinced by a fan bearing noise before only to have it be a motor.

Always well worth a check if you've got the belts off anyway as it's so easy to do.

so i have the new motor and the wiring in the box looks different to my old one so i need some advice on where the live and neutral go if possible

and the overload switch only has one wire so i guess this needs a link putting in

That's strange, whenever I've bought a motor there was a label stuck inside the connector box and/or a set of instructions.

I'd hang fire until someone else offers their opinion.

Does the wire on the yellow terminal go to the overload switch?

The left one is for anti-clockwise (CCW), the other for clockwise (CW)

I've rotated the motor image so it lines up with the label, you're set up for CCW at the moment.

Cr is the run capacitor, Cs is the start capacitor

The diagram shows one mains lead going through the cutout to the centre top terminal and and the other going to the bottom left, black & red wires. So I was wrong in the above post, which I have deleted.

I would connect the mains live through the cutout

looking at it i would say to run counter clock wize put the brown with the yellow (top middle) and the black (bottem left)

still will be the same if you want clockwise but will need to change the two links to left to right not up and down

please let some one else confirm this be for doing as been a long time since looking at a motor there are some good guys on here

the yellow i think might go to the switch (but im not where the compressor is right now)

The yellow is going to the windings so you need to connect the brown wire to the spare terminal on the cut-out switch (as the other wire connected to it is going to the centre top (U2) as per rtbcomp) and the blue wire goes to bottom left (U1) and as said above just swap the links to reverse the direction.

ok ill give it a go, the other thing i need to do is change my circuit breaker as its a B16 type and i think i read 4hp motors need at 20amp one - the last motor was a 3hp one'

You should be OK to test it off load with the B16

Lovely job guys, i took the belt back off and tried it with the wiring info stated above and it still tripped straight away, but on my board right next to the 16amp is a 32 amp for my 2 post so i put the live from the 16 into the 32 as a temp test and it ran perfectly. So i just need to get a proper 20 amp breaker which im advised wont be a B type then im good to go again.
