Compressor oil/water filter

I have recently bought a Clarke filter for spraying and after i finished the stone-chipping, i found a drop of water on the filtered side of it I had the regulator right at the gun side then the filter before that.

Does any one know why or direct me in getting a better filter for when i start spraying paint ?

if you have the filter close to the compressor that could be the reason
those filters work by condensing the water in the air and if the filter is too close the warm air from the compressor heats up the filter stopping it working.
you could do with it around 10 feet away at least

I used to have a small compressor. When using a die grinder water would pour out of it even though I had a filter inline.

The main reason was the compressor was running continuously and the air coming out of the compressor was hot. Once it reached the gun it cooled and condensed.

My "new to me" compressor has a big tank and more CFM. I don't get any water out. I do have 15 feet of copper line from the compressor to where the regulator is mounted on the wall. That allows the air to cool and be caught by the filter/trap.

I can use it for hours and there will only be a few drops in the trap. I plan on eliminating that by adding a radiator before the tank to cool the air before it gets to the tank.

If you have a compressor that uses one port on the tank for the pump and regulator; that will prevent the hot air from the pump from going into the tank, being cooled then drawn out another port.

I have a cheap 7cfm compressor just for small spraying jobs and the filter was at the gun end. The garage temp was 15 degrees. The filter had about ten or so drops of water inside and condensation. It says to have the compressor 5 metres away from the spray work, so i think ill buy a longer pipe for it.

Would having the compressor outside in the cold damp air be any good ?

I dont want to have to spend much more money in making the spray job a good job, so shall i fit a filter on the compressor end and then the gun end ?

Am i right in thinking that a small amount of water in the gun wont make much difference in the job ? Would having the air temp high after spraying help make the water dry off the paint if there was a bit in it ?

Any cheap/quick suggestions welcome

drop legs are pipes that "drop down" lower than any air take offs from the system. It's easier to make an elbow into a "T" and use the bottom of t to create a drop leg.

The drop legs accumalate any moisture that condensates on the inside of your pipework and since they are the lowest part of system the trapped water can be drained via a tap or ball valve right at the bottom of the drop leg.
If you look at he system in he drawing all the horizontal runs fall and end at a drop leg to help water accumalte there
