Compressor filter

This is one of the filters on the compressor that came with my workshop. I'm thinking that surely it ought to have some sort of paper cartridge or something, and not just a lump of foam? Both cylinders are the same.

This is the set up I have using a fiesta airbox bought off bay of ees for £10. Draws air in through the air Rick in the wall. Works a treat!

One that's off your car? Not being silly, if you use the same one as you've got on whatever you drive, you've a ready supply of filters. Every time you get the vehicle serviced, keep the filter for the compressor. The slightly reduced flow/efficiency of a s/h car filter will be insignificant (presuming compressor displacement is way smaller than the vehicle)

fordman's idea is good but if u need to move the comp for work ur tied to the wall....
in the past I've used filters from Mini MK1 to Marina's...u could also look at small plant filters
something of a Lister/Petters or the like D engines .....

Some good ideas to mull over. I was hoping there were some standard ones I could buy off the shelf. Am I right in assuming that the little foam plugs are standard and there's nothing actually missing then?

most small petrol engines just have foam filters in them nowt wrong with that as long as your not using the comp in the same room as spraying . just clean them out once in a blue moon

It's going to be running my plasma table, so I want the air nice and clean. I'll get a refrigerated drier with filters eventually, meanwhile I have a water trap and a cartridge filter. The better the air going in the longer the cartridges will last I'm thinking.

I used a small oil filter for a Metro (I think). The thread in it is very close to a standard bsp thread (3/4"??), you can run a bsp tap through it or it will screw on with a bit of effort. I used a bsp nipple to attach it to the pump head.
